The Himba culture and people are extremely beautiful and breathtaking, yet there is one thing that has taken a toll on many village women’s lives.
Tiffany Martinez had the opportunity to experience life as a Himba woman near Opuwo, Namibia, while visiting the country. She soon realizes the effects of water shortages in her tribal community. . She witnessed women and children taking their long voyage to collect water, only to come back home tired and with buckets filled with discolored H20. The lack of water sources along with hygiene and sanitation methods severely hindered women in their pursuit of education. For example, when a Himba woman is on her menstrual cycle, she must leave her home and return when it is completed. The result of this tradition due to water scarcity is disheartening for many.
Together with a team, Tiffany was able to donate and deliver safe drinking water and sanitary napkins to the women in this Tribal village and we are eager to go back to implement a sustainable well for her tribal sisters and friends.
